A Message from the President – August 2015

Dear friends,

I am writing this message while vacationing in Greece. Regardless of the present difficult economic situation, it remains a blessed and breathtaking land, with remarkable beauty and unique ambiance which make it one of the most popular travel destinations in the world.

The end of the summer holidays is approaching and the students will soon find themselves sitting at their desks in their new classrooms. The HCGM staff worked tirelessly all summer long, so that the “Socrates-Demosthenes” School will be well-prepared to welcome the new and returning students. Furthermore, with the changes made to the “Saturday schools”, the quality of the supplementary education will be significantly improved.

The demolition of the Koimisis Tis Theotokou Church building is coming to an end.  Even though it was a bittersweet moment, this development brings us closer to the rebuilding our beloved church, as scheduled.

The HCGM always stands by all the members of the Greek community, in all stages of their lives; with our schools, churches, cultural and sports activities, and specialised programmes for the elderly. Many of these programmes for our senior citizens have been enriched to cover their current needs. Furthermore, we have added new programmes that will enhance the quality of their daily lives.

In closing, I invite you all to the «Πανηγύρι Ευαγγελισμού», our annual festival filled with music, dance, food, entertainment and lots of «κέφι». This event marks the end of the HCGM summer festivities, and the beginning of the new season, with lots of work, new visions, and plans, to better serve the Hellenism of Montreal.
