Children First. We Can.

childrenfirst-logo1Dear Friends,

On behalf of members of the Children First – We Can team, we would like to invite you to save the date for what will be a wonderful inaugural fundraising event this coming September, benefitting two great causes: L’École Socrates-Démosthène as well as the Giant Steps School, Resource and Training Center. The Honourable Leo Housakos, newly-appointed Senate Speaker, will be the keynote speaker.

As you may already know, Giant Steps School is the only educational institution in Quebec focused exclusively on students aged 4 to 21 years of age who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. Structured to serve both francophones and anglophones, the school is respected throughout the province’s educational and medical sectors with pedagogical and therapeutic programs designed to promote the achievement and growth of students with autism. This approach is based not only upon the work done with each individual student in the classroom environment but through an innovative inclusion program that allows him/her to participate in the community. In addition, the Giant Steps Resource and Training Center supports professionals, teachers, families, and the autism community. Ultimately, the dedicated Giant Steps team strives to be a leader and hub for the development and provision of services supporting the education and success of people with autism spectrum disorders.

L’École Socrates-Démosthène is a highly respected trilingual educational institution. Founded in 1909 by the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal, the school specialises in teaching French, as a first language, as well as Greek and English, with advanced technology integrated into the curriculum. With five campuses located in Montreal, Laval and the South Shore, the school caters to approximately 1,400 students from pre-kindergarten to grade 6. The high-quality curriculum offered by the school assures that the students have an exceptional success rate in preparation for secondary school. Based on the sound pedagogical foundation received at Socrates-Démosthène, the schools’ alumnae continue to enjoy success at the secondary level and ultimately, in their professional lives.

Our intention is to make this an annual celebration in support of these exceptional educational institutions. Please help us by generously supporting what will definitely be a wonderful evening!

Our cocktail-style event will take place on Wednesday, September 23, at the Palace Reception Hall, 1717 Le Corbusier Boulevard (north of St. Martin), Laval, Quebec H7S 2K7.

Sincerely,
Senator Jacques Demers
