We Care for Our Social Services

The Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal established in1972 its own social services department, known today as Hellenic Social Services of Quebec (SSHQ), with the initial mission to provide assistance to newly arrived immigrants needing a job, a place to stay, or help to support themselves.

Today, five decades later, the Montreal, Laval, and South Shore offices of SSHQ have responded to over 12,000 friendly phone calls, provided over 3,000 psychosocial referrals and consultations. They have also intervened in nearly 6,000 cases to offer support and assistance to those in need: to get to medical appointments, to complete documents, to offer job recommendations, etc.

The Hellenic Social Services of Quebec (SSHQ) of the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal (HCGM) addresses the psycho-social needs of our seniors and caregivers for our Greek population of Greater Montreal. This year, some significant positive changes occurred to our operating model, addition of new services, support and activities focusing on increasing the frequency of our services and activities while reaching a broader demographic.
