OXI Day Celebrations at St. George Cathedral
Commemorating OXI Day and Thessaloniki’s Liberation
On October 28, 1940, Greece’s resounding “NO” (OXI) marked a pivotal stand against oppression, echoing the bravery of those who sacrificed everything for the ideals of freedom and dignity. We also remember the Liberation of Thessaloniki on October 26, 1912, another significant chapter in our history that celebrates the enduring spirit of heroism that binds us as a community.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who joined us for yesterday’s Doxology at St. George Cathedral, making this commemoration truly memorable. Special thanks go to Father Nikodimos Kodogiorgakis for leading us in prayer, the dignitaries, to our dedicated students and teachers from École Socrates-Démosthène and HCGM Supplementary Education schools for their inspiring performances and standing proud as flag bearers, and to everyone who attended the luncheon afterward.
A big thank you as well to our generous sponsors, whose support helped make this event a resounding success. Together, we honor our history and continue the legacy of our heroes!
