“Taste & Tradition” 2017

On Sunday January 29, 2017, the annual “Taste & Tradition” event, took place at the Chateau Royal Reception Halls in Laval and was a great success.

More than 43 Greek organisations, based in Montreal, presented traditional Greek specialties and desserts from various regions of Greece. As well, several associations presented Greek folk dances, dressed in traditional costumes from respective Greek regions.

Participants had the opportunity to taste many food recipes from different parts of Greece, listen to Greek music and enjoy the performance of dance groups. Students from “Socrates-Démosthène” School were amongst the dance performers and received the public’s applause.

We would like to thank all donors, volunteers and guests who contributed towards making this event successful. All proceeds will go towards our Community’s schools and help our youth to preserve our culture, language and faith. We also thank all dignitaries whose presence lent prestige to the event, such as, the Honourable Nicholas Sigalas, Consul General of Greece in Montreal, the Honourable Leo Housakos, Senator, Eva Nassif, Federal Member of the Parliament for Vimy, the Honourable Eleni Bakopanos, member of the Privy Council, Mary Deros, Deputy Mayor of Montreal and Tony Loffreda, Vice-Chairman of RBC Wealth Management, who made a generous donation to the event from the Angelina & Tony Loffreda Foundation. “Repeated funding cuts to education have created the necessity to finance essential expenses previously covered by government grants. As a community, we recognised the need to help and thus created ‘Taste and Tradition,’ a fundraising event that showcases cuisine and music from various regions of Greece”
