“Alexandria” cross-country race

alexandria-_smallOn September 27th, for the fifth consecutive year, the “Alexandria” cross-country race was held at the Centre de la Nature in Laval. More than 1,100 HCGM “Socrates-Démosthène” school students, from all campuses, participated in the annual race, dedicated to Alexander the Great.
The “Alexandria” race was first organised by the Demosthenes School of the former Greek Orthodox Community of Laval and Kostas Diamantis, physical education teacher, as part of the Pan-Hellenic movement for the “name” of Macedonia.

The event was divided in three different segments: A 500-metre race for grades 1 and 2; a 1000-metre race for the 3rd and 4th grades; and finally a 2000-metre run for grades 5 and 6.
Our students were well prepared for the race, and put in all their efforts with a spirit of emulation, according to our Greek teachings and values. At the end of the day, a medal ceremony was held to recognise the winners of the races, while participation certificates with their achievement time records, were awarded to all students.
The event was organised by the physical education teachers of all “Socrates-Démosthène” campuses, namely Nellie Vlahandreas from campuses II and III, Marie-Elena Maglieri from campuses III and IV, Carla Fawaz from campus V, and Éric Bouchard from the Démosthène campus. We congratulate all of them for their efforts in organising this wonderful event.
