Liberation of Thessaloniki and OXI Day Celebration
On October 30, 2016, at St. George Cathedral and the Hellenic Community Centre “Adrian Maris”, the HCGM held the annual celebratory event, paying tribute to the liberation of Thessaloniki in 1912 and the OXI day in 1940.
His Eminence Metropolitan Sotirios, along with by Fr. P. Saliatelis, celebrated the Divine Liturgy and Doxology at the St. George Cathedral.
His Excellency, George Marcantonatos, the Ambassador of Greece to Canada, delivered a speech in church, which was filled with flags held by our Community’s youth.
Following the Doxology, the official Luncheon took place at the Hellenic Community Centre “Adrian Maris”, attended by many dignitaries, compatriots and philhellenes.
HCGM President, Nicholas T. Pagonis, the event’s main speaker, delivered an inspiring speech which led to standing ovation.
