Greek Independence Day – Events Schedule

Minister Christopher Skeete to Lead Montreal’s Festive Greek Independence Day Celebration

Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal is proud to announce the 2023 Greek Independence Day Parade, set to take place on March 26th in the heart of the Parc-Extension borough. The parade starts at 1:00 p.m. with this year’s notable Grand Marshall, the Honourable Christopher Skeete, Quebec’s Deputy Minister of Economy, Minister Responsible for the Fight Against Racism and Minister Responsible for the Laval Region. It will begin at the corner of Hutchison, along Jean-Talon, towards the VIP Dignitary viewing stand at the corner of Bloomfield, ending at Birnam.

Join us as we come together to celebrate the history, heroism, and independence of the nation that started it all. The parade promises to be an incredible display of patriotism, with Montrealers waving Canadian, Quebec, and Greek flags high in the air. You won’t want to miss this incredible event, which will showcase a variety of groups, including HCGM Schools and Departments, Greek associations, educational institutions, and cultural communities. Whether you’re Greek or not, grab your flags and get ready to show your colours with pride!

The HCGM also has a series of commemorative events leading up to the parade that will make this year’s celebration even more special. On Friday, March 24th, at 7:00 pm., we will kick off the festivities with an official dinner at the “Salle Quebec” of the Hellenic Community Centre Adrian Maris, located at 5757 Wilderton Avenue. During the dinner, we’ll present the “Hellene of the Year” award to a Greek nominee in recognition of their social contribution, scientific or business successes. For tickets ($40), please call 514-738-2421, ext. 231.

On Saturday, March 25th, at 1:00 pm., we’ll gather for the laying of the wreath ceremony in front of the Cenotaph of the City of Laval, located at 1 Place du Souvenir. The following morning, Sunday, March 26th, at 10:30 am., we’ll continue the celebrations with a Doxology at the Greek Orthodox Church Evangelismos tis Theotokou, located at 777 St-Roch in the Parc-Extension borough.

Then, it’s time for the main event. At 1:00 p.m. sharp, the Greek Independence Day Parade will begin. And the best part? We’ll be joined by numerous philhellenes and officials from the Federal, Provincial, and Municipal governments who are just as excited as we are to celebrate this momentous occasion.

We can’t wait to see you there!
