2024 Greek Independence Day Parade! Celebrating freedom and heroism!
March 11th, 2024
Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal proudly announces the 2024 Greek Independence Day Parade, scheduled for Sunday, March 24th, at 1 p.m., on Jean-Talon. This year’s parade holds special significance as we anticipate the esteemed presence of the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau.
The parade will be a solemn yet proud occasion as we gather to pay tribute to the enduring spirit of freedom and heroism that defines the Greek nation. Montrealers of Greek descent and their fellow citizens will wave Canadian, Quebec, and Greek flags with pride as we march through the streets of our beloved city.
The celebrations will commence on Saturday, March 23rd, at 10 a.m., with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph of Laval. This solemn ritual serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of liberty.
Later that evening, at 6 p.m., the community will come together for an official dinner at Le Château Royal Reception Hall. During this gathering, we will present the esteemed “Hellene of the Year” award, recognizing an individual’s outstanding contributions to society, science, and business.
On Sunday morning, at 10:30 a.m., we will gather at the Greek Orthodox Church Evangelismos tis Theotokou for the Doxology, offering prayers of gratitude and remembrance.
Following the Doxology, the parade will commence at 1 p.m. at the intersection of Jean-Talon and Hutchison. Accompanied by vibrant displays of patriotism, the procession will wind its way, showcasing our community’s rich cultural heritage and unity. Don’t miss this opportunity to participate in this meaningful Greek Independence Day celebration!
The festivities will conclude with a reception at the Hellenic Community Centre Adrian Maris at 6 p.m., organized by the Embassy of Greece to Canada and the HCGM, with the generous support of the Hellenic Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. This reception will serve as a fitting conclusion to our weekend of reflection and celebration. The honourary guest is the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Due to increased security measures, the doors will open at 4:00 pm. Parking will be very limited. The use of alternative means of transportation is recommended.
Please bring a Canadian government-issued ID with you, as you may be asked for it during the event’s check-in process.
In addition, you should not bring large items and bags with you, as all personal items are subject to security screening.
Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal invites all citizens to commemorate Greek Independence Day and reaffirm our commitment to freedom, democracy, and unity. Together, let us honour the legacy of our ancestors and inspire future generations to cherish the precious gift of liberty.
