Announcement of Grand Marshals for Greece’s Independence Day Parade
Montreal, March 16, 2026 – The HCGM President, Mr. Basile Angelopoulos, and the Chair of the 120th Anniversary Committee, Mrs. Justine Frangouli-Argyris, announced the grand marshals of this year’s parade for Greece’s Independence Day on March 25, which takes on special significance this year as it coincides with the 120th anniversary of the Community’s founding.
For this historic and commemorative year, two distinguished grand marshals have been appointed:
Kostis Hatzidakis, Deputy Prime Minister of Greece, whose presence honors not only the Greek community of Montreal, but also the enduring ties between Greece and Canada.
Soraya Martinez Ferrada, Mayor of Montreal, whose participation underscores the close and meaningful relationship between the city and the Hellenic Community, which for 120 years has actively contributed to Montreal’s social, cultural, and economic life.
This year’s parade marks a double celebration: on the one hand, the heroic Greek Revolution of 1821 and the timeless values of freedom and democracy, and on the other, the long and proud journey of the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal, founded in 1906, which continues to uphold and preserve the ideals of hellenism.
Additionally, on the occasion of this important anniversary, the federal government has confirmed that on March 25 the Samuel-De-Champlain Bridge will be illuminated in blue and white, in honor of Greece’s National Independence Day and in celebration of the 120th anniversary of the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal.
We call on all members of the community, friends of Greece, and fellow citizens to participate in large numbers in the parade and anniversary events, honoring our national heritage and celebrating together this important milestone.
Long live Greece!
Long live March 25!
