Supporting Through Volunteering

Volunteering is an act of kindness benefiting the community. At the same time, it makes you feel good about yourself. Taking care of other people gives individuals a sense of accomplishment, can be fun and can provide a unique and memorable experience.

Being part of a large community, like the Greek community of Montreal, can also provide opportunities which may greatly exceed original expectations of simply offering free time.

Volunteering prepares students for the competitive job market and other interesting opportunities.

The Hellenic support services of Quebec needs assistants for its Montreal, Laval and Parc Extension and South Shore offices. Assistants are required to answer the phone, help the elderly with their daily questions, keep files in order, help with administrative tasks, assist with the programs, make friendly calls and keep Face Book and Web site material up to date.

Also needed are grant writers who can write excellent French. Knowledge of grants is not a necessity, they will be trained.

Drivers are needed who can drive a van or have their own to help with the food bank on Wednesday mornings from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM. They will also help with loading the van at Moisson Montréal with food and bringing it to food bank in Parc Extension.  Speaking Greek is not necessary

Also needed are young people to work with the elderly in the afternoon, early evenings or weekends, doing fun activities such as learning computers, board games, music/karaoke). This is a perfect opportunity to practice your Greek!

A certificate of appreciation will be given to volunteers who have helped at least for four months or 240 hours.
