St. Patrick’s Day parade in Montreal

On March 19, 2017, a delegation of 49 students from École Socrates-Démosthène participated in the 194th St. Patrick’s Day parade in Montreal.

They proudly represented not only their school, but also the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal.

The delegation consisted of flag bearers, the Socrates-Démosthène drum corps,  their instructors as well as, many parent volunteers and employees of the HCGM.

Before the parade began, Mr. Jimmy Prattas, a parent from the Socrates V campus and owner of BIRRERIA ITALI.CO on René-Lévesque Boulevard, offered beverages and a place for the children to rest.  In the photo below is Harry Babaroutsis, our resident photographer, who always captures such beautiful moments at all our events. Thank you, Harry!

Our tradition of participation started only last year, but our delegation was once again met with great enthusiasm from the crowd all along the parade route. Through their very presence, the delegation illustrated that the spirit of unity and the collaboration is alive and well between the Irish and Greek communities, two of the oldest ethnic communities in Montreal.

The children marched with their heads held high and played exceptionally, encouraged by the energy of the spectators. The ground trembled under their feet.  This will without a doubt be a memory they will carry with them for years to come, and we look forward to seeing more children participate in the future.

We thank the students of Socrates-Démosthène, the employees of the HCGM and all the volunteers whose determination and hard work made this event possible.

A special thank you to Alex Fragakis and Odysseas Falagaras, our drum instructors, for working so patiently for many weeks to prepare our students to achieve such a splendid result.
