École Socrates-Démosthène welcomes a unique piece of art

On Monday, May 8th, 2017, a special event was held at the École Socrates-Démosthène, campus Démosthène, in Laval.  Simona Cosareanu who is an artist of Romanian origin, offered to give an excellent painting of Greece to our school, to thank us for welcoming the Romanian population to our wonderful campus.

The revealing of the painting was held in the school’s gymnasium, in front of our students, teachers, parents, journalists and members of the school’s administration. The artist talked about her technique, using resin paint and signed the painting, while asking from the students to name it.  The students will make their suggestions regarding the title of the painting and Simona will return to make the final choice of a name which suits it best.

In return, the students of Romanian origin sang songs to Ms. Cosareanu in romanian, and Simona gladly joined them to chant along.

Chris Adamopoulos, Socrates- Démosthène General Director, was in attendance, and he thanked the students for their wonderful performance as well as Simona for her beautiful donation to our Démosthène Campus.

Katherine Divolis, principal of the Démosthène Campus, addressed the audience and made it a point to emphasise the importance of our affinities with the Romanian community, stating that our orthodoxy, traditions and customs, bring us together and unite us as a whole.

We are very grateful to Simona Cosareanu for her gift to our school.  The lovely painting will be placed in the newly painted entrance for all to admire.
