Our Students Wore Jerseys to Honour Humboldt Victims

In memory of the 11 young athletes and the 5 adults of the Humboldt Broncos who died in a tragic bus crash in Saskatchewan, we asked École Socrates-Démosthène students to come to school dressed in their favorite sports jersey. Those who didn’t have a sports jersey wore yellow or green, the Broncos colors. Our story made the news. There was a special report on CBC News Montreal at 6, last Thursday.

“It’s incredible how even in tragedy, the memory of these young athletes from Saskatchewan brought so much joy to our little students all the way in Montréal” says École Socrates-Démosthène Campus II Director Georgia Tsakalis.

Sixteen people died and 13 are injured after the bus taking the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team to a playoff game collided with a transport truck on a highway north of Tisdale, Sask., last Friday evening.

Another tragic accident with students occurred in India on Monday. 45 students of Wazir Ram Singh Pathania Memorial Public School were returning home when their bus skidded off road and fell into the 100-feet deep gorge near Gurchal village on the Nurpur-Chamba. Out of the 30 people who died, 27 were students.
