It’s Greek Festival Time! First stop, St Jean Baptiste Festival
As every year, HCGM offers the opportunity to Montreal Greeks, to get together, have fun and enjoy summer during its annual festivals. The St. Jean Baptiste festival was the first one to take place in June.
The four-day festival, from June 22 to June 25, was organized by the HCGM South-Shore Regional Council at the local Community Center.
His Eminence Metropolitan Sotirios of Toronto (Canada) officiated the Vespers on the eve of the feast of St. Jean Baptiste, accompanied by the priests of our parish. He also officiated the Divine Liturgy the following day, Sunday.
Minister of Health and Social Services of Québec Gaetan Barrette, Federal MPs Alexandra Mendes and Sherry Romanado, Mayors Sylvie Parent (Longueuil) and Doreen Assaad (Brossard), Municipal Councilor of St. Hubert Eric Beaulieu, HCGM Executive Vice-President Andreas Crilis, HCGM Treasurer Nicolaos Flouris, HCGM Vice-President and Secretary of Education Zoi Batsis, Vice-President Afroditi Mourelatos and Secretary of Cultural Affairs Spyros Montzenigos honored the event with their presence. HCGM Laval Regional Council Secretary Christos Mavrogianis and Treasurer Demetre Costopoulos and Member Constantinos Kourebanas were there, as well. Furthermore, former President of the Fundraising Committee Tassos Xipolitakis, new President Stavros Tsinalis, General Director of École Socrates-Démosthène Chris Adamopoulos, HCGM Public Relations and Marketing Director Paris Petrou, representatives from different associations and organizations and thousands of people enjoyed the St. Jean Baptiste festival.
A group of 80 elderly Greek-Australians attended the festival on Sunday. They visited Canada as tourists and were informed about the St. Jean festival by our social media pages.
Absolut Disco DJs took care of the festival entertainment.
The South-Shore Regional Council members, the St. Jean Baptiste Church Committee, the École Socrates-Démosthène Campus IV Committee, the Platon-Omiros School Parents Committee in South-Shore, the Women’s Auxiliary, the “Zeus” Seniors Association, tens of volunteers under the leadership of the South-Shore Regional Council President Aphrodite Stathopoulos and in the guidance of Anna Dimitrokalis, Konstantina Karvelas and Denise Xenou cooperated for the great success of the 37th edition of the St. Jean festival.
