ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE ELECTIONS COMMITTEE
Community Elections on Sunday, June 8, 2025

Dear members of the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal,
The election for the new Board of Directors of the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal (HCGM), for the HCGM Montreal, Laval and South Shore Regional Councils as well as for the HCGM Audit Committee will be held only on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the following polling stations:
- Hellenic Community Center “Adrian Maris”
5757 Wilderton Avenue, Montreal, Quebec, H3S 2K8 - Holy Cross Church – Eglise Timios Stavros
4865 du Souvenir, Laval, Québec, H7W 1E1 - South Shore Community Center
5220 Grande Allée, St-Hubert (South Shore), Quebec, J3Y1A1 - Newly Added Polling Station: Socrates-Demosthenes School, Campus III (Roxboro), 11 11e Rue, Roxboro, Quebec, H8Y 1K6 (Covering the boroughs and municipalities of West Island Montreal: Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Pointe-Claire, Kirkland, Beaconsfield, Baie-D’Urfé, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Dorval, L’Île-Dorval, Pierrefonds-Roxboro, L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève, Senneville and all municipalities west of Montreal.)
Right to Vote
According to HCGM Bylaws (Articles 5.9, 5.10 and 5.11) persons wishing to vote in the HCGM elections of June 8, 2025, must meet the following conditions:
- Be 18 (eighteen) years of age or older.
- Be active members (have fulfilled their financial obligations regarding membership).
- Inactive members whose membership has expired less than ONE year to election day will be able to pay their membership before or on election day in cash or by certified cheque ONLY.
- Inactive members whose membership has expired more than ONE year from election day must have paid their membership at least 30 days before the election day, by May 9, 2025, to become active members.
- Inactive members whose membership has expired more than ONE year from election day and who miss the May 9, 2025, deadline to renew their membership, can pay 2 (two) memberships on election day, for the12 months prior and the 12 months following, to become active members. Payment of memberships on election day must be in cash only or with a certified cheque.
- New members must pay their membership by May 9, 2025.
- No membership will be collected from May 30, 2025 to June 7, 2025, except as provided in Article 17.5.3 of the HCGM Bylaws (i.e. for performance of mysteria and for the entrance to Community General Meeting(s)).
- NOTE: It is the responsibility of members to ensure that their names are on the electoral list. The final electoral list of active members (in alphabetical order) will be published on the HCGM Community Bulletin Board (5777 Wilderton) on June 5, 2025.
Final List of Candidates
The final list of candidates will be posted on the H.C.G.M. bulletin board on May 29, 2025. It will also been published on the website (www.hcgm.org) and on the community’s official social media channels.
A total of 67 candidates have been accepted to run for election to the Central Board of Directors. An additional 16 candidates have been accepted to run for the Laval Regional Board and 11 for the Montreal Regional Board. The Regional Board of the South Shore and the Audit Committee were elected by acclamation.
The Elections Committee would like to thank all those who submitted applications for their interest in the H.C.G.M. and to extend best wishes to all successful candidates for this year’s electoral process.
Candidate Representatives
Candidate representatives must complete a Registration Form and submit it to the Elections Committee no later than 12:00 p.m. (noon) on June 5, 2025. Registration Forms may be completed electronically at https://forms.gle/6HGd6Zax9z98yTUA6 and are also available at the H.C.G.M. Membership Office (Room 111).
On election day (June 8, 2025), candidate representatives must wear a name tag bearing their full name, issued upon registration. This tag will grant representatives access to:
- the sealing of ballot boxes in each region on Sunday, June 8 at 8:30 a.m.
- the ballot counting area after the close of voting at 8:00 p.m.
Each candidate may have at least one representative per region (Montreal, Laval, South Shore, Roxboro). Due to the higher number of candidates participating this year, the Elections Committee encourages candidates to share representatives where possible to ensure a smoother electoral process.
For this year’s elections, there will be six ballot counting stations in Montreal, five in Laval, and two each in the South Shore and Roxboro. No representative will be allowed access without a name tag.
The use of mobile phones for any reason is prohibited. Words or actions that make others feel threatened or demeaned will not be tolerated, and measures will be taken to protect members, volunteers, and staff.
Media Representatives
By decision of the Elections Committee, media representatives will be allowed to enter the ballot counting room during this year’s elections, in a designated area. The role of the media will be strictly observational during the counting process. No interventions or disturbances of any kind will be permitted until the Elections Committee announces the final election results.
Media Representative Registration Forms can be completed electronically at https://forms.gle/qFzCJEmJtAqd5Kdg7 and must be submitted to the Elections Committee no later than 12:00 p.m. (noon) on June 5, 2025.
On election day, June 8, 2025, media representatives must wear a name tag bearing their full name, issued during registration. This tag will allow access to the designated media observation area. No access will be granted without a name tag. The use of mobile phones for any reason in the ballot counting area is strictly prohibited.
Temporary Employees (for Election Day)
The Elections Committee will need the help of temporary staff to work on election day. Applicants must be members of the HCGM, over 18 years of age and have sufficient knowledge of the Greek language as well as one of the official languages of Canada (English or French). They cannot be employees of the HCGM and cannot be first-degree relatives of any of the candidates. These individuals will work under the guidance of the Elections Committee (Article 17.5.6 of the HCGM Bylaws). Remuneration for work will be the responsibility of HCGM.Those interested can complete the following Online Application for Temporary work: https://forms.gle/6wtF1Kh1iyjTbpsRA.
The Election Committee has set a flat rate of $25 Canadian per hour for temporary work.
Volunteers (for Election Day)
The Elections Committee will also need the help of volunteers to work on election day. Applicants must be over 18 years of age and have sufficient knowledge of the Greek language as well as one of the official languages of Canada (English or French). These individuals will work under the guidance of the Elections Committee. Those interested can complete the following Online Application for Volunteer Work: https://forms.gle/1y2xYwPg3hShoucU8.
Applications for temporary staffing or volunteer work are also available at the HCGM Membership Office, room 111.
In the event of a discrepancy between the information in this document and the original version in the Greek language, the original in the Greek language shall prevail and govern.
